Another Rhyll-Phillip Island Angling Club record was broken this weekend when Brad Martindale weighed-in a 1110-gram King George Whiting (54 cm in length) for the 365 competition, caught on Sunday.
Brad revealed the secrets of his success, simply “casting a squid-strip from the beach at Cleeland Bight”.
By the fight he first thought it could be a snapper, but after seeing a slender silhouette he thought it was a salmon.
At the time of landing, he couldn’t believe his eyes when it was in fact a King George Whiting, quite a superhero fish!
This smashes the previous club record of 950 grams that had been held for 18 years.
The superhero dad, Brad, was fishing with son Sam, who also caught an impressive King George Whiting of 500 grams, albeit a baby by comparison.
It seems that Brad may have peaked too early as the next angling club competition isn’t scheduled until this coming weekend, thus, this extraordinary catch is not eligible for the competition weekend prize.
