Great win after the siren - U14 Blue
2 min read

The Under 14 Blues hosted the Korumburra/Bena Giants at the Kennel, in a hotly contested affair.

The weather was magnificent, and the kids were primed for a contest.

The 14’s were missing some quality players, including number one ruckman Hayden POWER, centre man Sammy O’Garey and four others, so the team managed only one on the bench.

The ball was bounced, and away we went.

Maxy Jess in the ruck battled hard. A great tap to “Mr. Football” Archie Williams and a kick into the forward line resulted in a goal for the Doggies.

The Giants rallied and kicked two quick goals and we had ourselves a game. Good work off the back line by Jesse Moschetti and Cub Cantwell, pushed the giants back at every turn.

Levi Addison was like Salt “N” Pepper, he was in everything.

At the end of the quarter, the doggies were up by two points.

At the start of the second, the injured Heath Bowen started to fire up forward.

Some quality deliveries into the forward line, and solid work from Jem Hennekam, Lewey De Fazio and Marley Cabello battled hard.

Both teams played well and at the main break, the Giants were up by two points.

The premiership quarter started with a bang, but the Doggies struggled to put it through the main sticks. Al Szymanski, Zane Matthews and Angus Mclure worked well together and returned the ball into the doggies forward line, with Heath Bowen kicking some quality goals.

A great set shot banana from the boundary, and the Doggies were having a crack. Flynn Dengerink stood strong at centre half forward, kicking a good goal and got some good chances, setting up a goal for Mr. Football had the Doggies running free.

The doggies had the percentage of the play and took the lead into the final break.

The Giants were off like a flash in the last, kicking two quick goals to take the lead.

Some quality coaching from Brendan Cashman, reigned in the Giants advance.

The quarter ebbed and flowed with the lead changing five times.

Big Joe Kelsy hurt his knee and thoughts started to enter that the Giants could run away with it.

The Doggies back line started to feel the heat, but Kai Cashman, Ollie Bain and Cub Cantwell slowed the advance.

With one minute to go, Maxy Jess and Sam Faithorne linked up to find Salt ‘N” Pepper, Levi Addison in the forward line.

With a rowdy crowd on the hill, Levi lined up with the doggies behind by two points.

With the confidence of a Mark “Jacko” Jackson Handstand, Levi leaned back and kicked a ripping goal, just as the siren went.

The crowd went mad and the rowdy lot on the hill couldn’t contain themselves.

Final scores 75 to 71.

Best players included Levi, Lewis, Archie, Flynn, Max, Al and Heath.
