Bass Coast Shire Council has advised work will soon begin on a project to replace the footpath between 137 - 157 Thompson Avenue in Cowes.
A council spokesperson said the project is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance pedestrian access and safety across the shire.
The work, which includes installing a new 1.5-metre-wide pedestrian footpath is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
"As with all construction projects, completion is dependent on weather conditions and contractor and supply logistics," council stated, confirming the project will be finished in time for the busy summer period.
The works include:
- Demolition and removal of the existing footpath.
- Installation of a new 1.5-metre-wide concrete pedestrian footpath.
- Associated earthworks and infrastructure modifications to ensure long-term asset durability.
Council said an arborist had been consulted in project preparations to ensure the valued Golden Cypress trees are protected, and Friends of the Cypress have been notified of the upcoming works.
"During the project, some driveways along Thompson Avenue will be replaced with reinforced concrete at no cost to property owners," the council stated.
"This is necessary to ensure proper levels and cross falls are achieved for the new footpath.
"Access to affected properties will be restricted for four days after concrete pouring to allow for curing. The contractor will notify property owners in advance of any access disruptions."
The council said through its renewal program it aimed to provide "safer and more accessible pedestrian pathways for the community".
It also advised access to businesses may be limited at some times and parking bays in the construction zone would be unavailable for the duration of the project.
Traffic and pedestrian control measures, including reduced speed limits, will be in place to ensure safety.
Local residents and emergency services will have access at all times during the works.
