Phillip Island locals Sophie Fletcher and Sage Goldsbury both won their heats in the first round of the Maroubra Pro World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series.

The QS1000 rated event got off to a flying start today with the first rounds held in clean two-foot conditions.

In round 2, Sage will again face Sophie McCulloch, who knocked her out in the Quarter Finals of the Great Pro event earlier this month, as well as Cedar Leigh-Jones and Maddison Parker.

Sophie takes on India Robinson, Alysse Cooper and Nyxie Ryan in her round 2 heat.
