Monday - Total Fire Ban in force
1 min read

A Total Fire Ban (TFB) has been declared for the Wimmera, Mallee, South West, Central and North Central regions tomorrow, Monday January 27. This includes Bass Coast.

Tomorrow's conditions will be hot and dry with temperatures reaching the high 30s to mid 40s and gusty winds of 70-80km per hour.

A Total Fire Ban means no fire can be lit in the open air or allowed to remain alight from 12.01am to 11.59pm on the day of the Total Fire Ban.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the TFB has been declared due to the expected conditions across the Wimmera, Mallee, South West, Central and North Central regions.

“Tomorrow’s conditions will make it difficult for firefighters to supress a fire should one start,” Jason said.

“We’re asking people to follow the strict conditions associated with the Total Fire Ban declaration.

“Understand how the increased fire risk will impact you and ensure your fire plan covers all possible contingencies.”

You can’t cook outdoors using solid fuel such as wood or heat beads during Total Fire Ban Days. You also cannot use fire pits, light a campfire or do any welding, soldering or grinding.

Victorians can find out if it is a Total Fire Ban on the CFA website where it is usually published by 5pm the day before a Total Fire Ban.

For more information on what you can and can't do visit the Can I or Can't I page on the CFA website.

Late last year, a fire started at The Gurdies on December 19 and burned until December 27. It was classified as "out of control" for several days and fire fighters from across the region, including Phillip Island and San Remo attended. The fire threatened houses and farm properties in the Woodland Close and Gurdies-St Helier Road areas.
