ASPIR (Artist Society Phillip Island Region) committee and members are thrilled to be invited to hold the Annual ASPIR Cup Weekend Art Exhibition at Berninneit, the new centre in Cowes.

As part of the opening celebrations the works will be on display for a week from Thursday November 2 right through until Cup Day on Tuesday November 7.

Over the years this annual showcase of the creativity of ASPIR members has become a much-anticipated event.

Dr David Ashley Kerr, Senior Curator at Latrobe Regional Gallery is coming to judge, and the Awards will be presented on Friday November 3 from 5.30pm.

The Cowes Bendigo Community Bank is a major sponsor with the Best in Show Award of $1000 and Highly Commended Awards.

Other sponsors include Alex Scott Real Estate, Brinnie T Design, Phillip Island RSL, Phillip Island Winery, Senior Art Supplies, Westernport Hotel, Westernport Water, and the Wild Food Farm.

“We at ASPIR commend all these sponsors to you, their support makes all the difference and ensures a successful event,” said ASPIR president Miranda Sage.

As all works are for sale; it is an opportunity to acquire a wonderful piece to take home and enjoy.

This year will also see students’ work displayed from four local primary schools in the Young Artist Award.

The Cowes Bendigo Community Bank is providing cash prizes and students will be encouraged in their artistic endeavours to see their works displayed in such an amazing space.

In other news ASPIR is excited Bass Coast Shire has found a way forward for the four participating groups to move into the old CFA building at 119 Settlement Road to create an Arts precinct.

ASPIR, The Art and Craft Gallery, PICES, and Boomerang Bags will each receive a licence to occupy their own and shared spaces.

“Not having to wait for major funding to be found for a full refit means that we now have the opportunity to bring together the ideas, energies and skills of our members and really create a home for

ASPIR with our partners without further delay,” Miranda said.

“It has been a 29-year journey to this point and all the hard work by previous committees and members has now paid off.”
