San Remo parents are calling for the Lions Park playground to be safer for children, with an online petition.

The change.org petition has been signed by about 30 people and is calling for fencing around the play equipment.

“With two-year-old twins, I believe the playground is too close – less than 30 metres – to the road to not be fenced for the safety of children, especially around school times and weekends when there is a lot of traffic,” wrote Brad Waldron, the author of the petition.

“If the playground was fenced, it would help the parents with young children relax while the children enjoyed the playground and a small section of the grassed area.”

Other parents agreed.

“When my three now adult boys were young I would breathe a sigh of relief when I found a park with a fence – so much safer to allow the boys to explore and have fun,” Melissah wrote.

Sue commented: “Agree that (the playground) is too close to road for very young children.”
