There was a constant queue at the coffee van at the Island Marketplace – one of the few places offering coffee for those desperate for a caffeine hit during last Wednesday’s power outage.
Petrol stations were closed during the outage, with some people caught short with fuel. There were vehicles queuing up when the stations reopened for business.
While many businesses were closed, Cowes Batteries said it was much busier than normal with people coming in to buy torches, batteries and even portable solar panels. The shop was running its computer off a back-up battery, so was one of the few places able to accept credit cards.
