Julie Houghton and Friends presents Sounds of Summer
1 min read

A musical journey in song and story is coming to Cowes on February 4.

Following the sold-out concert at St John’s Uniting Church in February 2022, Julie Houghton and Friends return to present an afternoon of delightful music from the popular classical repertoire, music theatre and Gilbert and Sullivan with a touch of poetry and humour.

Featuring a special tribute to the great English contralto Kathleen Ferrier, in the 70th anniversary of her death, Sounds of Summer promises to be a moving concert of fine performances, a little laughter and tunes you will love.

Master of the piano David McNicol returns to accompany the cast and offers a virtuoso solo performance of his own. Soprano Suzanne Shakespeare, baritone Christian Smith, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Wakefield and actor and host Julie Houghton promise you an entertaining afternoon, with a special appearance by pint-sized pianist Matilda Shakespeare Curcio.

Julie is well known to music and arts lovers, having worked as a journalist and announcer at the ABC. She can also frequently be heard on 3MBS as an arts interviewer and is the music reviewer for classicmelbourne.com.au. She is also resident actor for The Palour chamber music group.

For lovers of classical music, this is one not to be missed.

Light refreshments will follow the performance.

Saturday, February 4 at 2pm at St John’s Uniting Church, corner Chapel Street and Warley Avenue, Cowes.

Tickets are $20 adult and $15 concession, children free.
