Eat in that view

If you want your meal with a side serve of magnificent sea views, then Beach HQ on the Esplanade in Cowes is where you need to be.

Overlooking the Cowes beach and pier, with views stretching across Western Port, this has to be the ultimate family-friendly food destination.

Although it opened its doors in late 2019, the pandemic and lockdowns mean this fabulous local restaurant has only been trading for just over a year and is still an undiscovered gem for many.

The seasonal Modern Australian menu focuses on fresh and local produce, complemented by an extensive bar stocking local and Gippsland wines and spirits and a range of local and international beers, including Asahi and Peroni on tap.

This is fuss-free dining to suit the whole family. Unsurprisingly, given the waterfront location, there is loads of fresh seafood, including Bass Strait flake, oysters, prawns and calamari as well as burgers, pasta and steaks.

Head Chef Vikas Sharma has designed a menu that showcases flavours from around the world, including Asia, the Middle East, Mexico and the Mediterranean. It caters for vegetarians and vegans, and a kid’s menu has all the littlest diners’ firm favourites.

For families, the early seatings (from 5pm Friday to Sunday) means you can get the kids fed early while the adults sit back, enjoy a glass of local wine, a cocktail or a craft beer from Phillip Island Brewing Company, and take in that view.

Escape the cold in the enclosed terrace and enjoy the water views, and with the restaurant’s table service all you have to do is sit down and relax.

To warm up the winter nights, from mid-July Beach HQ will be offering a special Winter Warmer menu for $45 per person including a glass of house wine or beer and a choice of two courses. Keep an eye on the Beach HQ Facebook page for details of the menu, which will feature hearty flavours and comfort food to keep the chill at bay.

Beach HQ is open for dinner from Wednesday through to Sunday from 5pm, and lunch Friday to Sunday from 12pm.

It’s the ideal place for a post-Penguin Parade meal, a lazy weekend lunch (you may even spot a passing whale), or a night out with family and friends.

It can cater for large groups and special events and is available to hire for functions.
