Newhaven College seeks new Head of Year 9
1 min read

Newhaven College is thrilled to announce an exceptional career opportunity within its leadership team – the position of Head of Year 9 starting in 2024.

The Head of Year 9 role at Newhaven College presents an exciting chance for a dynamic and dedicated educational leader to shape and enhance the educational journey of our Year 9 students.

The successful candidate will be entrusted with fostering an enriching and supportive learning environment, ensuring that students continue to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally during this crucial stage of their education.

In Year 9, a special curriculum brings the immediate and wider world to life. Our curriculum looks different from the other years. We progress with core subjects and introduce new ones. We approach all subjects using methods that connect students with the world around them and this innovative program sparks student engagement with learning.

Students and faculty are situated in a unique learning space within the specially constructed Year 9 Environmental Centre, which is set away from the main College campus and features picturesque views of Westernport Bay.

This facility is specifically designed to foster outdoor education, sustainability, and hands-on learning, all of which lie at the heart of the Year 9 experience.

Mr Tony Corr, Principal of Newhaven College, expressed his enthusiasm for the position.

"We are delighted to open up this leadership opportunity to dedicated and innovative educators.

“The Head of Year 9 will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and personal development of our students.

“We are seeking an individual with a passion for fostering student growth, who can bring fresh ideas and a student-centred approach to the role."

Ric Pearce, Newhaven College’s current Head of Year 9 since 2008, will finish in this position at the end of the year, but will continue to teach at the College in 2024.

The Head of Year 9, along with a team of staff, is responsible for the day to day running of the academic, pastoral and co-curricular program.
