A novel idea that started overseas during the first coronavirus lockdown has spread to Phillip Island.
It involves brightly painted wooden spoons and a little sign saying Spoonville.
Here in Cowes, a Spoonville area has been created on the foreshore under a large cypress tree at the end of Dunsmore Road by some local mums and dads, with the aim of putting smiles on faces during the health pandemic.
And everyone is invited to join in.
The happy faces, cartoon characters, monsters, animals and other creations peering up from the sand have certainly attracted smiles from passers by exercising on Stradbroke Avenue, since “Spoonville” emerged locally in the past few days.
The sign erected is a welcoming one and reads as follows:
1. Spoonville welcomes new residents
2. Place your spoony person during your daily exercise
3. Make sure any attached bits are fastened. We don’t want to litter the beach
And there’s a special appeal to dog owners to ensure their canines are under control when passing, for obvious reasons.
