Weather did not dampen the spirits of our Island girls!

NETBALL

Under 11s
The U11 girls braved the cold but unfortunately lost against Cora Lynn 12-7. Isabella Stead did a great job defending as GK.

Under 13s
The girls were anticipating a wet game today and they got one!
The girls had a strong warm up prior to the game, on their toes and trying to keep warm.

They started the game nice and strong with plenty of supply from the mid court into the shooters.
The defensive pressure down the court was consistent and resulted in a number of scores from turnovers.
It also meant Cora Lynn were challenged and found it difficult to work the ball down into their shooters.

Halfway through the second quarter, the heavens opened up and the girls were soaked through by half time.
The weather didn’t wash the smiles off their faces, nor dampen their determined spirit.
Overall, the girls played a really strong and competitive game, coming away with the win, 17-5.
Best On: Aisha Hibbert and Olivia Holmes.

Under 15s
Even with the rain our Phillip Island 15s netball team reigned over Cora Lynn today.
Lily was unstoppable in goals and was well assisted by Meika and Isabella to keep up the momentum.
In the third and fourth quarters the defensive line of Sienna, Ruby, Paige and Isla applied relentless pressure, repeatedly denying Cora Lynn and restricting them to one goal in the second half.

Maya was outstanding as centre along with Hazel in mid court who distributed the ball well to give the Island the advantage.
Congratulations to the team and coach Anna on another strong win.
Final Score: PhilIip Island 22 V Cora Lynn 9.
Best On: Lily Mewett and Sienna McFarlane.

Under 17s
U17 knew it was going to be a tough game against Cora Lynn and they sure put on the pressure from the get-go.
The scores were a draw at first quarter and that motivated the girls to push even harder.

Defence continued to work extremely hard – all the goalies did amazing even in windy conditions.
Another great team effort girls.
Best On: Ahlee Penry Ella Duggan.

D Grade
In a club first, D Grade were ready to take on their first game.
A team with huge potential for the season settled their nerves and took the court, opening strongly and taking a quick lead.

Cora Lynn however soon found their feet and fought back to lead in the second and third quarter.
The Island really showed their potential though in the final quarter.
With everything falling into place and some beautiful passages of play, unfortunately Cora Lynn were too hard to catch.

Only up from here for the D Grade team.
Awards to Shanae who dominated in the second half in defence and Tori who remained strong and steady all game.
Final score: Phillip Island 18 V Cora Lynn 30.

C Grade
The girls went in with heads up high after a motivational speech from coach Jo Jo Ross.
They were pumped and ready to go knowing it was going to be a competitive game.

The rain hit hard in the first quarter, but that didn’t stop the girls from going in all guns blazing!
Our shooters Steph James, Hayley Moxey and Chloe Kalis worked amazingly together in the ring keeping us in the game.
Mid court runners Brooke Blundy, skipper Steph Krainer and a small run by Sunday Brisbane worked together to help bring the ball down and work it into our shooters.
Defenders Tori Legg, Bella Ross and Chloe Moxey were reading the ball like legends and helped to stop Cora Lynn from scoring.

C Grade may have had all four seasons in our game, but the girls should be so proud of how they played together!
Getting a rhythm happening in a new team is always hard, but the girls are in it to win it!

Unfortunately, this time they didn’t come home with the win, but are going to be a force to be reckoned with!
Final score: Cora Lynn 24 V Phillip Island 21.
Best on: Chloe Moxey and Bella Ross.

B Grade
The B grade girls were eager to take the court even though it was much cooler conditions compared to last week.
The first quarter was low scoring and hotly contested due to great pressure by both sides but the B Grade girls settled any nerves they had and this resulted in a small lead going into the first break.

With a strong defensive effort by Cailin, Lucy and Cassie, the defenders did a great job shutting down Cora Lynn’s attacking end, whilst Nell, Maddy, Charli and Amber provided great drives and plenty of options through the mid court.
Kylie and Emma were fantastic in the goaling circle, combining very well and rewarding any turnovers created by the girls.

It was a strong performance by the whole B Grade side – keep up the good work!
Final Score: Cora-Lynn 23 V Phillip Island 53.
Best On: Emma Felsovary and Cassie Stoppa.
