His joy at the $300,000 turf refurbishment of the Cowes oval over summer this year was short lived, when it spectacularly failed within months of its completion. Cause: According to PIFNC president Chris Ross: ”We are catering for almost 600 players. There are simply too many people using it.” Remedy: “We need a second oval now … and not in 20 years’ time as council currently decrees.”
