Another fantastic effort by South Gippsland Bass swimmers last month saw them swim off with send place overall in the Gippsland Championships for the fifth consecutive year as well as second place in the male and female divisions.

Their score of 1304.5 points was the highest team score the club has ever achieved.

The weather at Warragul was favourable for the 90 swimmers who represented the club over the weekend of February 25-27.

Under sunny skies the swimmers competed in a range of individual events and relays against competitors from Warragul, Traralgon, Sale, East Gippsland, Moe and Morwell swimming clubs.

Entered in every age group and event from Under 8s to Over 35s, the purple caps of the SGB team were everywhere to be seen, diving in with such enthusiasm.

The team spirit was evident as those on the sidelines, cheered on those competing throughout the weekend long event, with head coach Dylan Muir encouraging the SGB swimmers to show their support for one another.

Personal bests were celebrated as well as medals by competitors.

The growth in junior numbers meant there were many kids swimming at their first championships.

The SGB team did extremely well, winning the Ashley Delany trophy for the most points for Under 14s, for the third year in a row.

It was a real team effort with every swimmer striving to give their best and help earn points.

“It was great to see so many young swimmers giving the 200m freestyle a go,” said head coach Dylan.

In the individual points events, Olivia Holmes took out the Alan Harlow trophy with Milla Laub coming in third place in the 14 and Under Girls division and Zac Sherar taking second place and Rex Brocklesby third play in the Boys 14 and Under division.

In the open individual points competition Tomei Dal Pozzo finished third in the Jewell Family Trophy for overall female points.

The club took home a staggering 113 medals in the 122 events, with 32 Gold Medals.

24 (Individual and eight Relay), 49 Silver Medals. (37 Individual and 12 Relay) and 32 Bronze Medals (25 Individual and seven Relay).

A huge thanks to all the parents who spent time marshalling kids, timekeeping and helping officiate as well as the coaches who were there to help our swimmers.

Without you the club would not have the success it does.
