In a match that went right down to the wire, Phillip Island's Seniors fell short on Saturday, going down by just six points to the Warragul Industrials.
The Bulldogs were right in it from the outset, matching the Dusties goal-for-goal in a physical battle.
With both sides trading momentum across four quarters, the match was a showcase of pressure.
Despite leading at various stages, the Island boys couldn't quite hold off a late surge from Warragul, who pushed ahead in the final minutes.
Cameron Pedersen led up forward with four goals and a strong presence around the ground.
Nick Anderson also made a big impact, slotting three goals and playing an influential role through the midfield and forward half.
The ever-reliable Max Walton was superb in defence and rebound, constantly turning away attacks and setting up counter-movements.
Charlie Bruce worked tirelessly all game as did Daniel Pearce, whose leadership and composure proved vital whilst Connor Thompson added grunt around the stoppages.
While the result didn't fall their way, the Bulldogs can hold their heads high after pushing one of the league's top sides to the limit.
