Junior footballers dominate - U14 Red

What a great day to celebrate Mother’s Day, there was no wind, no rain – a perfect day for footy and kids didn’t disappoint by putting on a good show!

In the first quarter it was an even match up by Killy-Bass and PI Red teams, a change up with Bailey Parry in the ruck and Darcy Opitz in full-forward which gave Darcy the opportunity to spread his wings in the forward-line.

A great quick first goal by Harry Bentley and solid tackling by Jack Mascaros kept the ball in our half of the field, great defence by Max Nicka, Zack Hughes and Jack Mascaros kept the ball solidly locked in our half for most of the quarter.

The second quarter saw Darcy up in the ruck with a swift smash down to the forward followed by a sneaky point by Jack.

The ball travelled back down to KB forward line but was no match with defence from Archer Bailey, Brydon Marshall, Max Nicka, Darcy Opitz and Jack Mascaros pulling it back to our half once again resulting in a goal for Ethan Rhee.

Half time the score was KB 0 vs PI Red 14, which was exactly what our pups needed to ride out the day and start to experiment a little on the field. With Bailey P back in the ruck smashing the ball down to the forward 50 quickly resulted in two points and a goal for Darcy.

The ball then travelled down to the KB forward 50 where Ethan Rhee was waiting and stopped it dead. With a great play from Ethan Rhee handballing to Jack, Jack to Felix, Felix to Harry and then quickly back to Felix who followed through with a point, the point was then backed up by a quick goal from Jack M as it was locked in their 50.

With the pups well ahead, the team got flipped with the forwards-now-backs and the backs-now-forwards for a bit of fun which resulted in Arch Cameron quickly kicking two goals and nearly a close third.

Max N not wanting to miss out on the fun taking a couple of great marks and following them up with a few points for the Reds.

Jacob Solohub and Jackson Allan closely behind with great marks and both followed through with kicking goals to finish off the day and bring the win home!

Final score: KB – 0.0 vs PI Red - 9.9(63).

The pups finished the day singing the winning song loud and proud with their mums in the club rooms. Well done to the Under 14s Red for a great win.

Awards players: Harry Bentley, Zack Sund, Zack Hughes and Brydon Marshall.
