Island girls in chilly challenge against Kilcunda Bass

A Grade

In a challenging match against Kilcunda Bass - who currently hold second place on the ladder - the Island's A Grade displayed their resilience and competitive spirit.

The team welcomed Amelie Wragg back to the side, who is a great addition to their defensive end.

Despite the loss, there were standout performances that highlighted the team's strengths.

Abbey McCaughan was recognised for her outstanding defensive efforts, stepping up into GK and providing a significant boost to the team's performance.

Lexi Walton showcased her versatility and skill in the midcourt, demonstrating strong and accurate passing throughout the game, she was acknowledged with an award for her efforts.

Despite the result, the team continues to show promise and determination, reflecting their commitment to improving and competing well at this back end of the season.

B Grade

The Island were out to level the scores against Kilcunda Bass after a loss earlier in the season.

A rain-soaked court created a slow and steady, goal-for-goal first quarter with the Bulldogs down by one at quarter time.

Abbey and Soph in the defensive goal circle created turnovers throughout the second quarter and were rewarded with goals at the Island's end, giving them a five-goal lead at half-time.

The Island lead the second half, but things tightened up again giving Kilcunda Bass a sniff of victory as they took the lead in the dying moments of the final quarter.

But, at 38 goals apiece with 10 seconds left in the game, an obstruction call from the umpire and the siren, B Grade's youngest player Aisha Hibbert took her shot after the siren and nailed it for the win.

C Grade

With tough weather conditions, the Island knew it was going to be a tough match.

Kilcunda Bass started strong and lead the whole game, despite this the game remained competitive and controlled from the Island's side, however the scores did not reflect this.

Kudos to ring defenders, Ahlee Perry and Rachael Cameron who did not stop working hard together, taking many intercepts and rebounds.

D Grade

In an exhilarating match against Kilcunda Bass, the Island girls secured a well-deserved victory.

The game marked a triumphant return for Sienna Trew who showcased her resilience after a brief absence from play.

Her outstanding performance in both WA and GA positions earned her recognition as one of the best on court.

Cathy Felstead also displayed exceptional skill and determination, holding strong in GS and contributing significantly to the team's score.

Her accurate shooting and unwavering presence in the circle did not go unnoticed, as she too received an award for her efforts.

With this impressive win, the team has shown great potential as they aim for a strong push towards the finals.

U17s

The first half of the rainy match began strong for the Island U17s.

Meika and Matilda scored fast goals, along with Sophia, Isla and Jasira in defence, and Abby and Tilly in midcourt.

With Maya away, Ellie stood in making a great addition to the court in both, mid and defence.

The first quarter ended 9-1 in the Island's favour.

Another 11 points were scored for the Island throughout the second quarter.

Maya assisted in the coaching and the second half began with various changes in positions - Matilda in WD, Jazz in GK, Jasira in GS, Isla in C and Ellie in GD.

The Island girls came away with a great win, keeping Bass just under 10 goals.

Best on court: Jasira and Meika.

U15s

It was a slow and steady match for the U15s in the adverse weather conditions.

The game showed patience and steady passing down the court, allowing Aisha and Mia to convert goals easily.

Defenders Tilly and Adelle worked hard and dominated in the Kilcunda Bass attacking end.

Mid courters Ellie, Maisie, Piper and Kate (the team's U13 sub) were clever with using space and taking intercepts consistently.

U13s

The Island's U13s were determined to regain their dominance over Kilcunda Bass after their previous narrow defeat by three points.

Kate and Macy took control in the centre, while Abi and Frankie excelled in the goal area.

Phillip Island started strong, leading by one point at the end of the first quarter.

However, Kilcunda Bass rallied and began to take control by halftime.

With encouragement from the U15s, the Island gained confidence and inspiration, reclaiming the lead by one point at the end of the third quarter.

Throughout the final quarter, Abi and Frankie were unstoppable in their goal attempts and the defence remained strong.

U11s

In a stellar performance delivered by the Island's U11s, the team secured a dominant victory against Kilcunda Bass.

The game was marked by outstanding defensive play from Marley Hecker in GD who effortlessly intercepted throughout the match and maintained her strong performance across all four quarters.

Frankie O'Brien demonstrated versatility and skill across multiple positions (including C, WA and GA).

Her precise and strategic passing contributed significantly to the team's cohesive gameplay.

The team continue to display outstanding teamwork and individual excellence.
