Deb Rielly Run returns
1 min read

Despite the extreme heat over the weekend, around 200 people signed up for the return of the Deb Rielly Run at Kilcunda on Sunday.

Organiser Frank Angarane said it was a "terrific result given the temperature and the wind".

"There were many members of Deb's family on hand and for many it was an emotional occasion," he said.

"But it is one that remembered and paid tribute to Deb and the contribution she made to the Bass Coast community."

Due to the high temperatures, Ambulance Victoria recommended the 10km run be re-routed, so it took place as two 5km loops, to ensure the runners were always within 2.5km of the start/finish line.

"Support crew on push bikes patrolled the route for the duration to keep an eye on participants in case they became distressed," Frank said.

"All participants were asked to take heed of the conditions and not push themselves too hard and to look out for one another.

"Thankfully they all did and there were no issues reported.

"The spirit and goodwill amongst all involved was terrific and many commented that they were rapt the event was back and look forward to returning next year."

Frank said he was extremely pleased with the outcome.

"Putting it together on the day involved a massive team effort and the number of volunteers who happily donated their time was in the true spirit of Deb Rielly.

"We are confident that next year we'll be able to bring the event up a level or two with more elite categories and electronic timing."

While the event is about having a go and giving it your best, a few prizes were awarded:
10km: Luke Nicolson, Amanda Wilson, David Field, Anna Moore, Leave Wilson and Jaxon Foon.
5km: Christian Kilner, Jenny Tierney, Shay Davis and Jenny Merrick.
2km: Nathan Moore, Eleanor Murdoch, Hazel Sharp, Charlie Murdoch and Amelie Bassell.
Family event: Chetland Family
Teams event: Bass Coast Breakers Women's Football Team

The Deb Rielly run was sponsored by Bass Coast Shire Council, Alex Scott & Staff - Wonthaggi, Voyage Fitness Wonthaggi and Community Bank Inverloch & District.
