San Remo inspires Victoria’s new emblem

A “monster” carnivorous fossil found on the San Remo coastline is Victoria’s official state fossil emblem, after beating seven other contenders to the prestigious title.
Melbourne Museum last week announced the winner of a poll to nominate the state fossil emblem, which last year saw 11,500 Victorians vote, with other fossils unique to Victoria in the running including a giant toothed bird from the bayside, a fierce 25-million-year-old whale from the Surf Coast and an East Gippsland bear-like marsupial.
