Western Port Ward candidate: Jon Temby
1 min read

Jon Temby is standing for the Bass Coast Shire Council in the Western Port Ward.

Jon is a committed environmentalist with a background in the corporate world. He has a long family association with Phillip Island and in 2021 came to live in West Creek on a property with a Trust for Nature covenant protecting its bushland.

Jon brings practical experience from farming, the arts, emergency services, Landcare and other community service organisations, teaching, risk management in multinational organisations and running his own OHS consultancy.

Jon would advocate for:

  • Protecting and enhancing Bass Coast's natural environment, beginning with the Western Port Woodlands;
  • Supporting arts and cultural opportunities as part of a strong local economy;
  • Supporting the uptake of renewable energy as part of the shire's climate action plan;
  • Increasing community connectedness, local transport options and access to health services in the smaller townships of the Western Port Ward;
  • Increasing public open space in the shire's new estates for passive uses such as off-lead dogs, kite flying, walking, group chatting, reading etc. These spaces need to be safe, shaded and within walking distance of local housing.

Jon believes councils have been squeezed financially at the same time as they have been required to take on more duties. He said he would advocate for increased state and federal funding to enable our council to provide essential infrastructure and services.

Jon wants to hear from residents of the Western Port Ward about their issues for council attention.
