All 180 students at San Remo Primary helped plant a range of trees, shrubs and understorey plants at Bass Coast Shire’s Gap Road property recently.
A large wetland at the back of the property is getting a revamp this year, with 3000 plants to protect and enhance habitat, while increasing biodiversity for the range of waterbirds and other native species that use the wetland and surrounding areas.
The younger students also got a further glimpse into the diversity of life in the water of the wetland by doing some water bug sampling.
They found a range of small bugs and insects that perform important roles to keep the water healthy such as breaking down organic matter.
