Deb Leonard, independent candidate for Monash, has announced her plan to support the farming and agricultural industries, the backbone of Monash's economy and identity.
Ms Leonard emphasised the importance of recognising the region as one of Australia's most productive food bowls.
"As your MP, I will support our farmers and associated agricultural industries, both locally and nationally," she stated.
She said her plan focuses on four key areas: strengthening farmers' rights and bargaining power, boosting agricultural education and addressing workforce shortages, delivering better infrastructure for agricultural communities, and supporting sustainable and resilient farming.
Ms Leonard pledged to protect farmers' right to farm, ensure the farming community has a voice at all levels of government, and break up market powers that squeeze farmers.
She said she will call for more agriculture-based courses at Gippsland TAFEs, advocate for increased housing in agricultural regions, and secure federal funding to improve rural roads and bridges.
Ms Leonard also promised to work with farmers to develop evidence-based sustainability programs and advocate for grants to improve energy efficiency and reliability across all agricultural sectors.
"I am committed to being a strong voice for Monash's farming and agricultural communities in Canberra.
"Together, we can ensure a thriving, sustainable future for this vital industry."
