While in Bass Coast the local argument for weekly red bin collections over summer continues to rage, the state government has announced funding to help councils transition to a new four bin system.
Last week, the government announced 17 councils had received funding to prepare residents for the move to the new system.
Two Gippsland councils were recipients with Baw Baw receiving $66,500 and Wellington $62,900
Under the new system, Victorians will be sorting their household waste and recycling into four streams, with standard bin colour coding across the state.
All local government areas will transition to a new glass service by 2027 and a new food and garden organics service by 2030.
The new bins have already been rolled out in areas like Hobsons Bay and Macedon Ranges.
The government aims to divert 80 per cent of waste from landfill.
All councils are eligible for funding and the next funding round will be announced in 2022, with two more rounds to follow.
