San Remo seaside style
San Remo wears its fishing heritage proudly, but the maritime history is just one of the reasons to visit this idyllic seaside village, nestled underneath the Phillip Island bridge.
Coffee lovers will find plenty to enjoy in the local cafes, nestled in a shopping strip that also boasts restaurants, cocktail bars, friendly hotels and food stores.
Whether you fancy dining out, or eating fresh fish and chips from the San Remo Fisherman’s Co-op overlooking the wharf, San Remo has something to suit every mood.
Browse the specialty shops, watch the pelican feeding, walk along the pier and watch fishermen try their luck or the youngsters enjoy some jetty jumping. Sit back and enjoy the passing parade from one of the sidewalk cafes, or relax with a picnic in the sunshine on the grassy slopes … there’s plenty to enjoy in this beautiful seaside village.
Pelican time!
San Remo pelican feeding is a long-held tradition which is fun, free and educational. Every day at noon, the local pelicans line up on the beach to receive a snack of fresh fish from the San Remo Fisherman’s Co-op, who also provide an informative talk on the pelican and the marine environment. You’ll also get a few tips on sustainability and the environmental issues affecting these incredible birds.
Cruise on
Departing from the San Remo Jetty, Wildlife Coast Cruises offer a stunning one-hour scenic cruise to view the granite cliffs and beautiful waters of Cape Woolamai.
The scenery is magnificent and it’s a unique opportunity to get a glimpse of some of our favourite marine friends, including seals and dolphins (while during winter, whales pass by on their annual migration north), as well as an array of birdlife. The crew offer informative and entertaining commentary throughout the trip and you’ll be a wildlife expert by the time you return to shore.
Take a walk
If you’re looking for a more active afternoon, why not take the San Remo to Anderson walk along the shared pathway. You will see some of the most spectacular views of Western Port, San Remo and the Phillip Island Bridge appear before your eyes.
Or take the scenic coastal track that curves around Davis Point and follows the length of Children’s Beach and Back Beach. After a leisurely loop, you’re sure to be ready for lunch!
For a bigger challenge, take the George Bass Coastal Walk from the outskirts of San Remo to Kilcunda. Follow the footsteps of a famous explorer along this magnificent clifftop path and be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views in the region.
