Schoolies caused thousands of dollars damage to a Cowes restaurant last night after holding a “rave” on top of a freezer van.
Gab Caffieri, owner of The Jetty Phillip Island, said damage to a freezer van and stored equipment - including a slushy machine and freezer - will cost about $5000 to fix.
“Schoolies decided to have a rave and then a group was dancing on top of our ice cream room, which then caved in,” Gab said of his restaurant on the jetty triangle.
“I now need to temporarily fix it so as not to damage the freezer and equipment any further.
“The damage will be in the thousands of dollars - probably $5000 - by the time I am able to fix it properly.”
Gab said he would not be able to fix the freezer properly until he removed the structure entirely and reassembled it.
Schoolies were quick to cause damage, with the vandalism occurring on Wednesday night, before the official date for School Leavers Week started on Saturday, November 27 running to December 4.
Police have access to CCTV footage of the incident and will be making attempts to locate the offenders.
“The investigation is on going,” police said.
Only metres away on the jetty triangle, Victoria Police yesterday held a press conference to local media to explain how they would have a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour.
