Storm damage

Local police have been assisting emergency services, including the SES with storm clean-ups in the past week. During last Wednesday's storm, police helped SES and council staff to clear a large tree branch on Thompson Avenue, one of many trees causing issues with roads.

On Monday, the Eyewatch Bass Coast Facebook page said police were again assisting with the clean-up, and praised the work of local volunteers. "A massive thank you to our dedicated volunteers from CFA and SES who have been working tirelessly throughout the night and continue to do so in order to keep our road clear and motorists safe." They urged motorists to be careful and patient on the roads.

Drink driving

On August 25, around 12.17am San Remo Police intercepted a vehicle in Tampa Road, Cape Woolamai, after it cut off a police vehicle at the Cape Woolamai roundabout. The driver, a 21-year-old male from Oak Park returned a reading of 0.113 and has lost their licence for 11 months.

Later that evening, just before 2am, the police allegedly observed a vehicle driving erratically on Phillip Island Road, almost directly outside the San Remo police station. The driver, a 35-year-old woman from Leongatha, returned a reading of 0.63 and lost their licence for three months.

Police reminded drivers to think before they drink. "If you drink and drive in Bass Coast, the local police are highly likely to find you and you'll lose your licence," they warned.
