It was months in the planning but a unique marriage proposal ended in tears and a yes recently on the steps of the Penguin Parade viewing platform.
Jacob Schnackenberg wanted his marriage proposal to fiancé Rebecca Walsh to be one to remember. He approached Phillip Island Nature Parks to assist him with his very detailed and ambitious plan.
Jacob wanted to recreate the proposal scene from their favourite movie “10 Things I Hate About You” starring Heath Ledger as a way to propose to Bec. The original plan was to take place in the US at the original high school where the movie was filmed.
The Melbourne based couple love Phillip Island and have a holiday home on the island, so when the plan to carry out the proposal in America become impossible, Jacob turned his attention to the Penguin Parade bleachers.
There were a few false starts and date changes due to weather, but the planets aligned on November 24 when Josh executed his proposal plan that was crafted down to the minute and included a videographer and photographer and setting up his electric guitar and microphone on the stands.
Bec had no idea about the plan when she was picked up from their holiday home and blindfolded as she was led down to the viewing stands. Josh then recreated the movie scene singing ‘I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ and getting down on one knee to ask if Bec would marry him. She said yes and it even made the TV news that night – a very special start to their island life together.
