A multi-million-dollar upgrade and employment focus is at the heart of a renewed Woolworths supermarket in Cowes.
A special event last Friday morning launched the upgraded supermarket, including a performance by children from Cowes Primary School.
Residents can enjoy a new Woolworths shopping experience with fresh food, convenience and value the cornerstones of the supermarket's renewed store.
The multi-million-dollar investment includes an extensive upgrade in the bakery department, an expanded range of fresh fruit and vegetables, improved signage throughout the store and several new Woolworths team members to assist customers.
A major part of the renewal has involved the development of several new undercover bays for the Direct to Boot service, where customers can place their grocery orders online then simply confirm when they’ve arrived. Store teams will be available to pack orders directly in the boot with no additional charge for local customers.
In the store, customers will find a tailored range that has been curated based on customer feedback as well as several changes to the floor plan. This includes an expansive range of Australian fruit and vegetables, a selection of 100 per cent Australian beef and an array of fresh seafood from the fish market.
There’s also a number of local suppliers stocked on shelves, including Gippy milk and South Gippsland eggs.
Woolworths Cowes’ Acting Store Manager Adam, said: “We’re incredibly excited to open a contemporary fresh food offering for the local community, including a more extensive range of groceries to choose from across all departments in the store.
“We hope customers enjoy the newer innovations at our Direct to Boot which make it easier for them to choose how they want to shop, in a way that is most convenient with their busy schedules.”
The store has been fitted out with LED lights to reduce power usage and has switched to carbon-efficient refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Electronic ticketing has been installed throughout the store to reduce waste, while customers will also be able to shop with trolleys made from recycled milk bottles.
An expanded selection of international groceries will be available across the fresh, frozen and dedicated departments in the store, clearly marked for added convenience. Customers will notice a dedicated offering of gluten-free goods.
The Cowes team has set up several programs to support the local community, and is proud to partner with the Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL), providing food donations on a regular basis.
Opening hours for Cowes Woolworths are 7am - 10pm, seven days a week.
