The Phillip Island Movie Club presents "The Last Journey" on Wednesday April 30, at Berninneit, starting at 7.30pm
The film is a documentary by Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wilkingsson and follows the friends on a road trip with Filip's father Lars Hammar.
Filip and his mother are worried about Lars' loss of vitality and zest for life and so Filip decides to recreate a road trip their family used to take from Sweden to a beach town in the south of France for their summer holidays.
Lars, a true Francophile, hopes to find himself on this journey again, but he is worried about whether he is healthy enough to make it.
The stars and co-directors Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson are known in Sweden as a TV comedy duo and the documentary is as much about Filip as it is about Lars. It is also the most watched documentary in Swedish history.
"At the core of this documentary is the love of a son for his father, and it is so powerful you can't help but get taken along with the flow," says club secretary Margaret Byrne.
"Filip has made the documentary with the intention of recreating the past, to reignite his dad's zest for life. Some of the recreations do not work yet Filip includes them in the documentary because it exposes his journey in understanding the real current medical and psychological position of his father.
"The Last Journey is a film where you will laugh and cry, and cry while you are laughing, but it is not a sad film."
Please note the film begins at 7.30pm, the new starting time for 2025.
It is a private event and you must present your PIMC membership ticket and your Trybooking receipt to enter.
If you haven't collected your PIMC membership ticket as yet, the club will be issuing tickets from 7pm.
"The Last Journey" (2024), runs for one hour and 31 minutes and is rated PG.
