More funds promised for Cowes Jetty upgrade

The Labor Party has promised $800,000 towards stage two of the Cowes Jetty expansion project if re-elected in November.

Previously the jetty received a $1.4 million upgrade to improve accessibility and reinstate emergency vehicle access.

Work included pile repair works and offsite fabrication of steel crosshead support beams, work on the northern low landing to improve low tide access for the ferry and other vessels, new handrails and new asphalt on the jetty walkway.

The project was funded through the Better Boating Fund in the 2019/20 state budget.

Labor candidate for Bass Jordan Crugnale said that in addition,  if re-elected, a Labor government would continue to invest in a range of infrastructure upgrades as part of the Better Boating Fund, including:

  • $1.8 million to upgrade the ramp and car park at Lang Lang
  • $2.6 million to upgrade the ramp and car park at Tooradin
  • $2 million to upgrade the ramp and car park at Inverloch

Ms Crugnale also promised $200,000 for new facilities at the Corinella Boating and Angling Club.

She said the government has already worked hard to deliver better fishing and boating facilities on waterways all over the state, investing more than $130 million in improvements and upgrades.

The Better Boating Fund ensures money raised from boating registration and licence fees goes back to boating initiatives every year.

“A re-elected Labor Government will continue to back our state’s anglers and boaties – upgrading boat ramps, jetties and piers across Bass.”
