"I'm not tied to party politics, I'm only focused on getting the best outcomes for our region," said independent candidate for Monash Deb Leonard at the release of her climate policy on the weekend.
Independent candidate for Monash, Deb Leonard, unveiled her climate and environment policy on Sunday to 100 supporters in Wonthaggi.
The policy, shaped by feedback from conversations with local residents, outlines Deb's vision to support Monash in tackling climate impacts, while seizing opportunities in the clean energy transition.
"Our community faces the impacts of climate change firsthand through extreme weather, coastal erosion, and rising energy costs," Ms Leonard said.
"We need practical action that protects our environment while creating local opportunities. I will support science-based climate action at national, state and local levels."
Key initiatives announced include increased solar and battery subsidies for households and businesses to lower power bills and provide reliable energy through power outages.
"My policy will bring down power bills, create hundreds of good local jobs, and help safeguard our precious natural environment.
"Here in Monash, we know the energy transition is happening. The question is: will our community benefit, or will we be left behind?
"I'm not tied to party politics, I'm only focused on getting the best outcomes for our region."
Supporters made calls to voters and hit the streets to talk to voters about the issues affecting them and how they would like to be represented.
Deb said her policy had been shaped by thousands of surveys and conversations with locals.
"As an independent, my job is to listen to the community and fight for our needs in Parliament.
"Monash has been taken for granted as a safe seat for too long. It's time we had a representative who puts us first and gets results."
