The Newhaven College host families spent time together with the Japanese students during the Ibaraki Junior High School visit.

Ibaraki Christian Junior High School students Natsuki, Ritsuka, Mayuko, Rio, Sana, Aoi and Ayumi settled into the routine of Newhaven College quickly, making friends and enjoying the cultural exchange.
Newhaven College has welcome students from their sister school, Ibaraki Christian Junior High School, a continuation of the Japanese exchange program.
From July 29 to August 9, the College hosted 12 Year 9 students and two teachers from Ibaraki School in Honshu, Japan.
The exchange brought together students from diverse backgrounds, fostering cross-cultural friendships and promoting mutual understanding. It also provided a perfect opportunity for Newhaven College students studying Japanese to practice their language skills.
During their stay, the Japanese students were welcomed by College homestay families, embracing the chance to experience the Australian way of life firsthand. Many ventured out across Phillip Island, Melbourne, and beyond, to experience Australian life.
Japanese Exchange Program Coordinator, Mitsuko Horiguchi said the exchange program left an "indelible mark" on everyone involved.
"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Japanese students and teachers for enriching our lives and contributing to the vibrant tapestry of our school community. Special thanks go to our host families for their warmth and generosity in welcoming these students into their homes."
Scheduled for September, the exchange program will continue with nine Year 10 and 11 Newhaven College students visiting Ibaraki School, again, staying with host families. All students participating in the program are anticipating an incredible experience.
