Island Ward candidates online
1 min read

A free online community forum is being held for residents and ratepayers in the Island Ward to hear from candidates about their vision and plans for Bass Coast Shire and ask questions about issues that are most important to them.

Independent for the federal election, Deb Leonard, is hosting the forum to give the community the opportunity to assess the values, ability and priorities of each candidate.

Having followed the progression of council campaigns across other regions, Deb said she noticed that there had not been much opportunity for community members on the island to hear from their candidates in a formal setting or have the opportunity to ask questions in a public forum.

"I feel it is so important to encourage community engagement at all levels of politics, and facilitate connection between community and decision makers," Deb said.

During each session, candidates will deliver a brief presentation outlining their objectives as potential councillors.

Following the presentations, audience members will have the chance to ask questions directly to the candidates.

The online forum will be held this Sunday October 13 at 7pm. Registrations are essential via the QR code below.

Deb believes strongly that informed voting is the key to democracy working properly at every level of government.

"Hearing directly from candidates better equips us to make the best choices at the polls for our region," she said.
