Helping hand for PICAL

Recently, PICAL has been the recipient of two council grants, to help them better service the community.

The organisation received an accessible grant and a quick access grant from Bass Coast Shire Council.

With the $2000 accessible grant they purchased four accessible garden beds which are located at the PICAL Community Garden. The volunteers have constructed the garden beds, filled and planted them out with seedlings ready for a winter crop.

The garden beds will allow those community and volunteer members who rely on a wheelchair the ability to access the garden and contribute to providing food for the wider community. PICAL encourages those with accessibility needs to visit the garden at Blue Gum Reserve and check out the new garden beds.

PICAL is also pleased to announce it successfully obtained a $2000 Bass Coast Shire Council Quick Grant. With this grant they have purchased a new cash register system to use in the administration office.

The current old-style cash register had become inadequate for their business needs. The new system integrates with current accounting software, with the advantage of emailing receipts at the time of payment which will benefit community members.

"PICAL thanks the Bass Coast Shire Council for the opportunity to improve the service offered in our administration area and for improving the accessibility of our community garden," centre manager David Rooks said.
