Have your say on play
1 min read

Bass Coast Shire Council is looking for community input on new playgrounds at Cape Woolamai, San Remo and Cowes.

Council is replacing three existing local playspaces and installing one new playspace during 2023/24 and it is looking to the community — young, old and in-between — for their ideas for play equipment and playspaces.

The playspaces being replaced are:

  • Cape Woolamai: Woolamai Park on Sunnyside Drive
  • Cowes: McKenzie Views Park on Katherine Circuit
  • Inverloch: Outrigger Reserve on Outrigger Drive

A new playspace will be installed in the Anderson Street Park in San Remo.

The online consultation includes a survey, a vote on different play equipment examples, or even the option to draw your ideas.

“A ‘playspace’ refers to the whole environment for play, not just the play equipment and softfall zone,” a Council spokesperson explained.

“This may include mounds, open grassed areas, sand, water, seats and picnic tables, paths, logs, rocks, plants and trees etc, all of which combined to form rich and varied ‘open ended’ opportunities for play.

“Council undertakes regular condition audits of all of its playspaces to ensure they are safe. The age and condition of these playspaces saw them identified for renewal.”

Once the design is finalised, after the second round of consultation, the time from order to installation can take up to 24 weeks to pre-fabricate the equipment.

These playspaces are all classified as local level facilities which cater to the community who live within walking distance of the park.

As such the standards for these facilities does not include toilets or BBQs.

Consultation is open until July 28.
