The Block's Dave Franklin is MC

The Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club (WBSLSC) is hosting a fundraiser this Friday night (October 11) to raise money for the much-needed Smiths Beach rescue base, along with upgrades to bunkrooms and clubhouse safety improvements.

The event will kick-off at 6pm, with Dave Franklin from The Block TV series on Channel 9 playing MC for the evening.

Local musicians Daisy Spratt and Dan Searle will be playing live music, with finger food provided and drinks at bar prices. The night will be catered for by the San Remo Hotel.

A range of local businesses, and businesses associated with The Block, have provided a range of amazing items which will be auctioned off throughout the night.

Nici Cahill from Snapshot Photography will also be capturing the night of community revelry.

Club President Jason Close said after the "enormously successful" community open day on Grand Final Day eve, the club was greatly excited to open its doors to the public again.

Jason said the club is always looking for ways to raise funds for clubhouse upgrades, as well as repairs to the rapidly deteriorating Smiths Beach rescue base.

"This Friday night is going to be great way to do this, have fun, listen to some terrific local musicians, have something to eat and drink at the Block Bar and take in the views at your local lifesaving club," Jason said.

"The Block did a fantastic job, giving our clubhouse a real lift and making it a more comfortable environment for our volunteer lifesavers to spend time in. If you haven't already seen it, come along on Friday night and check it out."

The club president explained however, there were still a few necessary upgrades needed to improve facilities for volunteer lifesavers.

"We also have a very big project to carry out repairs to the Smiths Beach Rescue Base that is a very high priority so we can continue to provide a life saving service in this location."

Event organiser and the club's Director of Assets, Darrell Clark, said "we are so grateful to the many local businesses and individuals who are supporting this very important event.

"The San Remo Hotel will be cooking up a storm, and we've also had many local businesses donate some great items and prizes that we will auction on the night. Dave Franklin himself will also be helping us out a bit in this space also.

I'm looking forward to seeing a great turnout on Friday."

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by visiting the Club's Facebook page.
