Festive First Nations Christmas Collections
1 min read

This Christmas, BIG W and Woolworths have launched limited-edition First Nations Christmas decoration collections featuring traditional storytelling.

Designed by artists from the Warlpiri and Kalkadooon communities, the ranges include limited-edition baubles, tree ornaments, candles, gift cards and stockings.

BIG W has continued its partnership with the Warnayaka Art and Cultural Centre for its second Christmas collection.

Designed by the centre s First Nations artists, the collection features eight limited-edition baubles and four tree ornaments, as well as an expanded range of gift cards, bags and stockings. Each of the artworks depict Jukurrpa, or Dreamtime.

Lajamanu is halfway between Alice Springs and Darwin with a population of around 900 Warlpiri people. The Warnayaka Art and Culture Centre has a long history in the community, set up to support the development of local artists  careers, while also providing services including English literacy and computer skills to foster confidence in the workplace.

Royalties from sales of the Warnayaka Christmas collection will directly benefit local artists in Lajamanu and their community.

At Woolworths, shoppers can discover an exclusive range of baubles featuring works by contemporary Aboriginal artist and Kalkadoon woman Chern ee Sutton. The collection includes four distinctive baubles in blue; green; purple; and kangaroo designs, as well as two candles in purple and Kookaburra designs.

The collection is available in-store or online.
