The Friends of the Thompson Avenue Golden Cypress in collaboration with Phillip Island Conservation Society (PICS) is bringing tree expert Dr Greg Moore OAM to the island.

Dr Moore, a Senior Research Associate at Burnley College and Principle from 1998 - 2007, was also Head of Resource Management 2002 - 2007 Melbourne University.

He is the guest speaker at PICS general meeting on Sunday July 7 at 2pm. The meeting will be held in the Chisholm Room at the Koala Conservation Centre.

Dr Moore has been on the National Trust Significant Tree Register's Committee since 1988 and Chair since 1996.

His presentation on the Tree Register will include a major emphasis on the Avenue of Golden Cypress which have a National Trust Heritage listing.

"In this day and age with massive delivery trucks coming to the island the Golden Cypress are in grave danger," a Friends spokesperson said.

"Already there have been many incidents where large branches have been ripped down. Hopefully Greg will have some advice on what can be done to protect and maintain the trees for years to come."

After the presentation there will be a Q & A session followed by afternoon tea. People who come to listen to Dr Greg Moore are welcome to then stay for the rest of the meeting.

All are welcome.
