Election feature: Meg Edwards – Conservative Independent

Candidate statement:

"Do you know about Labor’s plan (which no other party or candidate is opposing) to cover our coastline with industrial wind turnbines? In October, shortly before caretake mode, the Labor government promised to ‘rapid rollout’ what many of us believe is environmental vandalism at taxpayer expense with ‘faux renewables’ certainly not a solution in terms of reduction of need or alternative energy.

Around two weeks ago I was still calling on the existing declared candidates to state their position on what will be the greatest and gravest impact on Bass’s pristine coastline with irreparable environmental damage. One candidate put out a statement detailing the concerns that had been raised with them but is unable to oppose or provide alternatives due to their party policy – the rest … silence.

Running in this state election was not on my radar, it takes courage, money and time to stand – hats off to all the genuine candidates. With so few people even aware of what is planned, let alone the initial consultation period has already closed after huge amounts of taxpayer funds spent, it became critical to get it on the table and raise awareness. Even at the candidate forums during the last week it was clear some candidates were still not aware of what the government (both state and Federal) have planned, certainly not the extent of it.

All residents of Bass have a right to proper information and consultation - which has not happened. Every government decision affects every citizen in one way or another.

We are looking to host a community forum next Sunday – to register and details please follow my facebook page: www.facebook.com/MegEdwardsAU/ and website www.megedwards.com.au (between the recent decision to run and the campaign, both are being updated with information as we can).

Who is Meg? I live in Inverloch, from a dairy farming family, schooled at Newhaven College my first job was at the Phillip Island Nature Parks before a career in agribusiness and business banking. We are now raising our boys in this same region of natural beauty. We run a small building business which focuses on sustainable and unique design and farm implementing regenerative practices.

I’m a competent alternative who listens, seeks to understand and stands for our region. Labor have committed to rapid rollout thousands of 340metre high industrial wind turbines using taxpayer money close to our shores. The turbines will destroy our pristine coastal environment and negatively impact wildlife.

I kindly ask for you to vote 1 Meg for less government overreach and more transparency and accountability.

Vote for Values:
Integrity | Community | Environment

Vote 1 Meg for:

  • Conserving our coast, woodlands and wildlife
  • Valuing families and small business
  • Restoring the rail to Koo Wee Rup
  • Road maintenance across our region
  • Sustainable housing affordability
  • Addressing the cost of living
  • Health services including preventative and positive

Vote #1 for Meg Edwards is a vote against the industrial offshore wind turbines."
