Candidate statement:

"Over the past four years I have had the privilege of working with and for the people of Bass to do what matters for our community.

If re-elected in November, I will continue delivering for Bass including continuing huge investments in our healthcare, schools, mental health services, affordable housing, government-owned energy and lower cost of living for local families – with great pathways to secure jobs.

A re-elected Labor Government will invest up to $290 million to deliver the second stage of works at Wonthaggi Hospital – a major redevelopment that delivers extra beds, a new birthing complex and a new outpatient clinic. We’ve already delivered the first stage of work at Wonthaggi Hospital, investing $115 million to expand the hospital and upgrade its emergency department to treat an extra 26,000 emergency patients every year. We’re also building Phillip Island Community Hospital to take pressure off nearby hospitals.

We will invest $6.7 million on upgrading Wonthaggi Primary School and $16.7 million on boating facilities across the electorate including towards the Cowes Jetty.

Our Budget this year has also delivered massive investments for our community – with $7.8 million for Bass Highway safety improvements at Kilcunda, $1.9 million for Bass Coast Specialist School, and another $1 million for Stage 2 of the Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park was also allocated as part of the overall $116.9 million being invested to deliver the park’s access and Infrastructure Plan.

The Labor Government is fast-tracking the delivery of improved mobile services to better connect Victorians living and working across Bass. Our Big Housing Build also sees a minimum $25 million to build social and affordable housing right on the Bass Coast with projects already underway.

Since Labor came into government, we’ve also opened a new CFA station on Phillip Island, two new campuses for Bass Coast College, declared the Bass Coast a Distinctive Area and Landscape, and created the Cape to Cape Resilience Project with coastal hazard maps released, modelling done and adaptation and management options released for discussion with our community.

And right in our community, our sporting clubs have new pavilions, our ovals have proper lights, scout halls have been upgraded, and Men’s Sheds expanded.

I am running again because I am determined to make our community even healthier, more inclusive, more resilient, fairer and more sustainable."
