Christmas baking sorted

This Saturday the CWA Phillip Island Twilight Branch will be at the Cowes Craft Market with its Christmas cakes and puddings, traditional shortbread and other Christmas treats.

The market runs from 9am – 2pm at St Philip’s Hall, 102 Thompson Avenue in Cowes.

The group will also be at the Carols by the Bay (December 12), with Christmas treats to share while listening to the carols.

President Sally Matthews said this year, through the community’s generous support of their fundraising efforts, the group has been able to make a real difference in the community.

“We have donated $5000 locally to the Early Learning Centre, PICAL food pantry, and Women’s Friendship Cafe and statewide to VACRO ( criminal justice reintegration), Women’s Housing Ltd, the Rochester Flood Appeal and the state emergency fund.

“We have been represented at Homelessness forums, walked against family violence, packed survival bags for homeless women and assisted at a statewide CWA event in Rochester and of course we are at local fund raising events supporting our community.”

She encouraged women interested in making a difference in the community to join the group.

“The CWA Phillip Island Twilight Branch is a vibrant, philanthropic group of women supporting women, children and families in our community and Victoria and we’d love you to join us,” Sally said.

“We fundraise, we cook, we craft, we learn, we laugh and most importantly we advocate for disadvantaged and vulnerable women, children and families.

“We appreciate the generous grants from the Bendigo Bank and Bass Coast Shire and the support of the Island Markets and Cowes Craft Market, St John’s and Belinda from Marina Mouse’s Dancing House.”
