Choir’s Cowes Christmas concert
1 min read

If you have wandered past St John’s Church in Cowes on Tuesday afternoon you’ll have heard the Island Harmony Choir rehearsing their Christmas concert, to be held on Sunday December 3 at 2pm.

The concert is titled “Christmas Under the Southern Cross”, with a focus on Australian Christmas carols, including a piece written years ago by former musical director John Perrin’s daughter, Melissa, before she died, explained the choir’s Terry Norquay.

“It is called simply The Southern Cross and is lovely,” Terry said.

The choir performs two major concerts each year, as well as in aged care facilities, for Probus, recently at Churchill Island’s open day, and will be at the Carols at Corinella in December.

“We are an un-auditioned choir and many of our members are not musically trained, but can follow the music,” Terry said, adding they were guided by musical director, Cecily Woodberry, and pianist, Olena Kosaruk.

“The choir is about 30 strong but would love to have more singers join us.

“Whether you are a long-term islander or have recently moved here, why not come and give us a try and, hopefully, join us. We all find that being part of this choir is a rewarding experience.”

Rehearsals start up again in February, on Tuesday at 1.30pm at St John’s Uniting Church.
