Cape Paterson kicks off Bass Coast Series
1 min read

The Bass Coast Series 2025 starts this Sunday, January 19 at 10am with the 27th Cape Paterson Aquathon.

Organised by the Cape Paterson Surf Life Saving Club, the race includes a 400m swim and a scenic 4.4km run on coast tracks and through The Cape Eco Village.

The swim is held at Cape Paterson's First Surf Beach.

The aquathon is the first leg of the three-part Bass Coast Series, which also includes the San Remo Channel Challenge and the Cowes Classic.

"We are excited by the interest from the community in participating in this event, and I confidently predict the event will have record numbers," said Ray Rust, Cape Paterson Surf Life Saving Club President.

He described the event as suitable for those "just wanting to be part of it" and experienced athletes alike.

Conditions on Sunday are predicted to be ideal; sunny with a top of 24 degrees and light winds.

Contestant numbers are expected to be over 350, well clear of last year's record registration of 300.

Run by volunteers, the Cape Paterson Aquathon is a popular community event and all proceeds support volunteer surf life saving patrols at Cape Paterson.

You can enter as an individual or a team, and registrations are open online until January 18.

There are great prizes on offer for contestants.

"The event is our annual standout event, the key fundraiser, with all funds raised going directly to life saving operations so that we can continue to safely patrol our beach," Ray said.

"Sign up to take part, or come down on the day to cheer and soak up the atmosphere.

"Either way, we look forward to seeing you on the beach."

The other events in the Bass Coast Series are the Cowes Classic on February 8 and the San Remo Channel Challenge on March 1.
