Ever wondered about the UNESCO Western Port Biosphere?
Now is your chance to find out.
On April 16, at the St Philip’s Church Hall in Cowes, Western Port Biosphere Foundation CEO Mel Barker will be giving a presentation.
The event, from 2pm-2.45pm, is free and hosted by the Phillip Island Conservation Society (PICS).
The biosphere includes Phillip Island and was recognised by UNESCO 20 years ago and is one of only five biospheres in Australia.
The foundation’s projects include blue carbon ecosystems implementation and the development – with PICS – of the Western Port framework to support sustainable marine and tourism industries in the bay.
“This is a great opportunity to hear about progress in protecting Western Port tourism and the businesses that are reliant on a healthy marine ecosystem,” PICS president Jeff Nottle said.
He said it was also UNESCO Biosphere’s 20th year and the event would examine current priorities and future challenges.
Biospheres promote sustainable development based on community work and sound science.
