BCH provides first class cardiac care
1 min read

Bass Coast Health (BCH) is delivering a range of leading cardiology services to the community of Bass Coast and South Gippsland, optimising health outcomes while reducing the need for patients to travel for care.

BCH offers atrial fibrillation, chronic and rapid access cardiology clinics with cardiologists from the Alfred hospital, drawing on the expertise and resources of this leading Victorian tertiary health service.

The cardiologists visit BCH's Wonthaggi Hospital site weekly and monthly in Cowes. BCH also provides TTE (echocardiogram) and stress ECHO testing for assessment and monitoring of cardiac conditions.

Clinical Nurse Consultants give consumers support and advice, and coordinate cardiac/heart failure rehabilitation programs. These involve group exercise and education sessions at Wonthaggi Hospital and the Phillip Island Health Hub at Cowes, where consumers can undertake tailored programs to support their rehabilitation goals and needs following a cardiac episode.

"We have an expanding and ageing community, and therefore there is a high need for excellent cardiac care locally," BCH CEO Jan Child said, ahead of World Heart Day on 29 September.

"We are committed to providing a comprehensive suite of cardiology care so that our community's health needs can be met and closely monitored by a team focused on enabling our consumers to live as fulfilling lives as possible."
