Netballers fire up in hot conditions

C Grade

The C grade girls were still fired up from last week’s win and with a few returning players coming back in for their first game of the season things looked good.

Again in defence, the general Chloe M took control under the ring and with the help of Niki W, Ruby F and Karina R scoring goals for Kilcunda Bass was very hard work for them.
Stef K had complete control of mid court, both in defence and attack, with intercepted passes and feeding the likes of Rose V R, Mika W, Maya H and Kate K sharing the goal shooting positions,  the C-dogs had their game on.

K/B never stopped trying all game, but in the very warm conditions the Bulldogs were just too strong all over the court, and came home with a positive win.

Phillip Island 45 def Kilcunda Bass 19.

Best players: Chloe Moxey, Rose Van Rooy.

Anzac Day Medal: Steph Kranner.

Great to have Kate and Ruby back in the mix and Steph was a very deserving winner of the Anzac medal.

D Grade

The girls started off the game with some serious intensity.
With a strong mid court, the girls moved the ball down the court, where Julia’s strong driving for the ball and leads, and Jasmine’s strong holds, meant for some great goal scoring early on in the first half.

Teash, Lilly and Kate dominated in the mid court, which meant the goals kept flowing in for the Island.
Once again, we were lucky enough to have Bella stepping up from under 15s, and Ruby and Tailyn who all killed it in defence, which made the scores neck and neck up until the third quarter.

The girls played so well in the heat, but unfortunately lost 23 to 28.
Great work girls.

Under 11s

Great game for Phillip Island under 11 girls winning against Kilcunda-Bass 20-14.

Congratulations to Macy Piera for getting the Anzac medal award, Frankie Jess for getting the Doggie Dollar award and to Asha Paynes for the Gumbuya World award.

All the girls did such a great job today.
Well done.

Under 15s

Phillip Island vs Killy Bass.

A perfect windless Autumn morning welcomed the under 15 girls and supporters to what all hoped would be a competitive game against our local Killy-Bass rivals.

Killy-Bass came out strong, shooting the first quick goal, ensuring our girls knew they had come to play.
The game quickly took pace with our girls working the ball well into the sure hands of our goal shooters, Meika and Grace.

With Sophia and Bella dominating possession around the opposition goal, it was soon apparent that while the Killy-Bass girls' endeavours could not be questioned, their ability to get past our defence would be their undoing.
Rebounding most forward attempts with skilful ball reads and perfect passing, the ball was soon working its way back up the court via Hazel, Abbey and Maya.

It wasn't long before our girls started to dominate, with the first quarter ending 11-3 in the Island's favour.
The second and subsequent quarters saw much of the same; the girls were completely controlling the ball movement.
Continued dominance by Meika, smooth delivery from Hazel and hard running from Abbey saw the scores start to blow out.
End to end swapping of the talls saw Bella and Maya dominate up forward and the defensive backbone of the team Sophia, always dominant, assisted by Grace, continued to defend most of what came their way.

Special mention to Olivia Holmes for her contribution. She looks as comfortable in the 15s as she does the 13s, a future club star in the making.

All the best to the Killy-Bass girls who never stopped trying; they will win plenty of games this year, just not against this well-coached, skilful and determined Phillip Island under 15s!

The final scores were 35 to 16.

Best players: Meika and Hazel.

A great team effort by all on court.

Under 17s

The U17 girls were in sensational form early, with Lexi and Isla showing how they can deliver the ball into our reliable shooters of Ella and Lily effortlessly.

Daisy, Ahlee and Ruby provided a tight defensive team showing great skill which shut down the Killy Bass attackers.
In the second quarter, Shanae and Zoe came in strongly to the mid court with Lexi and Ahlee in defence.

All girls played with great intensity with many turnovers being converted to goals by Ella and Lily.
Due to the warm weather, the versatile U17s had a number of switch ups during the third and fourth quarters which continued the U17s domination across the court, with a convincing win 40 to 15.

Best players:  Ella Duggan and Daisy Fusinato

Anzac Medal: Shanae Riley.
