The Cowes Classic started in 1993 as a fundraiser for the Phillip Island Football and Netball Club and Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club, which continues today, raising about $10,000-$15,000 for each club, with funds going back into youth training.

John Weston was one of the founders of the event over three decades ago, wh
