$10 million promise for Phillip Island sports hub

Liberal Candidate for Monash, Mary Aldred and Senator Jane Hume visited Cowes today, to announce a $10 million election commitment to kickstart development of the Phillip Island Sports Hub.

The Phillip Island Football Netball Club has been lobbying the major parties fiercely to secure funding for ovals at the new sports hub in Cowes.

Currently, under the council's masterplan for the sports hub, it could be 20 years before work begins on the new ovals.

However the club says immediate action is needed.

Representatives from the club met with Mary Aldred in December last year to make the case for urgent funding for the new ovals.

Then in February, Ms Aldred met with representatives from Island Voice, who were also lobbying for funding for the sports hub, focused on the urgent need for football facilities, and the long awaited aquatic centre.

It appears the hard work has paid off, with this $10 million commitment.

Glenn Plymin from the Phillip Island Football Netball Club, and Peter McMahon from Island Voice, were on hand for the announcement.

Although the four major candidates in the election have all pledged their support for the supports hub, today's announcement is the first firm commitment for funding.

The new facility will be located at the intersection of Ventnor and Phillip Island roads in Cowes,
