New ultrasound equipment thanks to Auxiliary funding

Bass Coast Health is a step closer to a much-needed new ultrasound machine, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Inverloch Fundraising Auxiliary.

The group is one of a number of auxiliaries, including the Phillip Island Health Hub Auxiliary that work tirelessly to enhance healthcare in the shire.

In late June, Auxiliary members presented a cheque for $15,000 to Bass Coast Health CEO Jan Child towards the ultrasound machine.

The machine is valued at $60,000 and will be used in theatre by patients requiring cancer services. The ultrasound will assist in the placement of devices (PICCs and ports) at Wonthaggi Hospital, saving patients the expense and inconvenience of travelling further afield.

The ultrasound will also assist in diagnostic and palliative procedures where fluid needs to be drained from the abdomen or lungs.

The Auxiliary has so far raised approximately $36,500 of the required $60,000 for the ultrasound through the selling of beanies, street stalls imparting information and seeking donations, and by approaching service clubs, community groups, businesses and community members.

The beanies are knitted by community members and sold at Auxiliary street stalls. The purchasers write a message of encouragement on a card attached to each hat. The hat is then donated back to the Auxiliary for distribution to chemotherapy patients at the L. Rigby Centre.
